LECTURE ABSTRACT
Restoring bone foundation : strategies and limitations

Osseous defects are very common in dental treatment and bone grafting is an essential procedure in many clinical cases. The architecture of bone defects plays an extremely important role in predictability. In order to restore the bone conditions for optimal implant placement some biological principles need to be adhered to.

This presentation is a comprehensive overview of the principles and clinical technique of bone augmentation, prior to or at the time of implant placement. Ideal treatment planning should be performed, according to patient’s limitations. A great challenge in clinical practice are elder patients with multi systemic disorders exhibiting maxillary extreme atrophy and younger patients with maxillary discrepancies who are candidates for orthognathic surgery.
